Habitat for Humanity and churches are natural partners - each seeking to serve God by serving those in need of simple, decent and affordable housing. Habitat for Humanity is an “active” cause, providing church communities a method to express their faith through actions. It is a mission focus that speaks to the part of us that likes action and wants to see results. A faith community can help build a home and watch a family move in. The purpose of this plan is to invite church communities to join with us as long term partners in our home building ministry.
The City of Greater Sudbury, Habitat for Humanity Sudbury District service area has a wide range of church communities with unique attributes and a full range of denominations.

HFH Sudbury District Build in 2012 start date TBD
Building on Faith Partner Churches will be the key focus of the Habitat for Humanity Sudbury District church relations plan. Building on Faith churches will be HFHS’s partners in ministry, churches that are willing to make an ongoing commitment of support to HFHS. Churches will be asked to make the following commitments to become a “Building on Faith Partner”:
1.Prayer support for the HFHS mission of providing housing to those in need,
2.Appropriate access to the church communications tools: bulletin announcements, newsletter space, announcements during worship services and others. These tools will be used to draw support for Habitat projects.
3.A willingness to consider volunteer and financial support for the HFHS ministry.
4.Selecting a Building on Faith champion. This person will be a lay volunteer from the church who will act as a liaison to HFHS. The Champion will act as the liaison between the church and HFHS. Their role will be to communicate HFHS activities to their church community, organize volunteers and to assist in fund raising. This function will be a critical element of this plan’s success.
The Church Relations Committee is tasked with keeping the Habitat for Humanity Sudbury District church relations efforts alive. Patience and steady positive interaction are crucial to long-term success. The committee will focus on represent the geographic and denominational diversity of the HFHS service area. The church relations volunteer will support the committee for 2009. The role of the committee will evolve. Initially, the focus will be on identifying covenant partners. As progress is made in identification the role will become more focused on strengthening the Covenant Church relationships and engaging them in Habitat for Humanity Sudbury District’s mission to build sustainable affordable homes for families in need.
